www.owinna.comIs Lilongwe being
favoured?
Two TNM super league Blantyre heavyweights, namely big
bullets and mighty wanderers recently had a visit to the capital city, and this
was not a mere tour but they all dropped by for business purpose, off cause I know
you are aware of the type of business am talking about, in case you don’t, of cause
‘getting six points back to the commercial city’ Blantyre.
To be fair to both teams, they had unsuccessful trips, as
they (bullets and wanderers) only managed to recoup a point out of possible 12
between them.
To be precise, it was bullets who tried their part, and came
back to Blantyre at least with something to show (a point) but their rival’s
wanderers got back empty handed. But it’s not about whether one got back with
that or what, which has raise my eyebrows no, but it’s the statement by big bullets coach Eddie Ngo’onamo,
that ‘teams from Lilongwe are always favoured when playing at home’ which has baffled
me .
In case you missed the quote this is what he said.
“we tried hard into this game but I am very disappointed
with the way the refs handle Lilongwe teams when they are playing teams from
other regions they are favored(Lilongwe teams), this is unfair and destroying
the game of football.” he said
I think from my perspective, it has now turned into a scapegoat
that when we (coaches) have failed our tactics we should heap all the blame on
the referee. The ref, who handled the big bullets game Simon juvenile, is one
of the most experienced refs and he handled the game very professional.
To be fair, For someone who went to the stadium, if he had
to criticize the incident which got the better of most bullets fans, I think
you would agree with me that the ref had done nothing wrong, in fact bullets
did not work had more than their counterparts did and they were lucky to have
find the last minute equalizer.
The ref is being accused to have given the goal which came following
a corner kick when added time was already up(according to the bullets fans).but
to say the truth, Epac won the corner
kick inside the final seconds of the last added minute, and it would have been
unfair even had it been it was to the bullets side that the ref had not given
the corner kick. I guess the protest would have changed its tone by now, probably
to why he did not give the corner?
Taking into consideration that, Epac earned their corner
kick in the final seconds of the last added minute, then logically plus the
time taken by the player (Epac) to take it, that’s why that goal came when the
added time was already up, I don’t think had that decision gone Bullets’s way Ngo’onamo would have been saying that.
Do you think that Coach Eddie Ngo’onamo was right to bring issues
of regionalism in football? Or do you believe that Lilongwe teams they really get
an assisting hand when they are at home? Or the Coach just failed to give valid
reasons for his team loss?
