Ex-players stun Escom

Ex-players stun Escom
Two second half goals from former Escom United players, Hesston Munthali and Chimango Kayira were enough to help Big Bullets secure maximum points in the TNM super league at Balaka stadium on Sunday.
Bullets coming on the heels of a comfortable victory in the standard bank cup final preliminary round, had the edge over their rivals and had gone into this match as warm favourites.
In the first half, Both teams failed to create real goal scoring opportunities, with the real chance of the  half coming on 5th minute, when spacer Chapantha’s curled free kick forced Owen Chaima into an early save (bullets goalie).
In the second half, bullets started on a brighter note and had put Escom’s defense on task, as they persistently pressed for the opener, the most notable moment when fisher Kondowe combined with Hesston Munthali, and the latter saw his effort hit the post.
Few minutes later, Munthali wasn’t to be denied his goal though, as he put in a neat finish, to put his side in front, 1-0.However, Bullets’s lead was short-lived, as Manase Chiyesa connected Bernard Harawa’s well weighted cross.1-1.
Hesston Munthali was very lively in the game, and he proved to be thorn in the fresh for his former side. Bullets would soon come in front, following Chiku Kanyenda’s free kick which found Munthali who set up Chimango kayira.2-1.
Escom tried hard to force for the draw through their players, Bernard Harawa and spacer Chapantha but they failed to unlock Bullets’s well marshaled defense.
After the game, Bullets coach Eddie Ngo’onamo commended his boys for the victory and he added that, the victory will boost their morale ahead of their presidential cup final against Moyale.
“We have won the game, but in the first half we did not play well I think fatigue got the better of them (the players) but at halftime I told them to up their game so that we can improve our league standing, and they responded very well to it. I am very happy that we have won and this game will boost our confidence going into the presidential cup final.” he said
His opposite number, Charles manda conceded defeat and said his team will improve on their mistakes.
“We prepared well for the game but we have lost, I think we will have to go back to training and correct our mistakes so that we can improve our standing. To our supporters they should be patient. We know that we stand at the bottom of the log but we still remain with three games so will try to do something in the remaining games so that we can improve our position.” he said
