On Escom United’s
technical panel axing
Escom united is arguably one of the TNM super league best teams,
the electricians as they are proudly called, have been one of the most
consistent sides in the league in the past three years. Escom have won the league
once and managed to maintain their status as a top three team in that belief
period (past three years).
The 2011/2012 football calendar will be one of the
unforgettable seasons to the Escom faithful, not that the season will be
remembered in terms of success no, but this is the year which marked the
beginning of their indifferent spell.
In that season Escom shocked the football fraternity, when
it unceremoniously axed more than ten players in the 2011/2012 season over the
demanding of their unpaid dues. The Escom united board or whosoever made that decision made a wrong decision by
axing more than ten experienced players, this was like putting the team in a
critical condition of a transition period.
Players like Chimango Kayira, Ndaziona Chatsalila, Chipiliro
Jose, Noel Mkandawire, and Maupo Msowoya to just mention a few were all
subjects of that exit.
Now the Escom board
has fired its technical staff over the team’s performance. This season Escom
has been performing poorly, as they are occupying the last position of the log,
something unusual to a team like Escom.
From my point of view I agree that Escom is not performing
well, fine, but the issue is, whose problem is it? Is it the problem of the coach?
Or is it the problem of the players?
I personally see that this is the problem of the Escom United’s
board; it is yielding the fruits of its failure in man management. They is no
way any big team in the world would axe eleven players and bring in eleven new
ones and expect that team to be serious league competitors.
Let’s take a good example on that. Arsenal did something similar
to that in 2006/2007 season when they
sold most of their experienced players, the likes of Thierry Henry, Ashley Cole(yes
the same Ashley Cole who is arguably the best left back in the world),Robert Pires,
Sol Campbell ,Jose Antonio Reyes to just
mention a few.
What happens to arsenal now? They have not won the league
for more than seven years. But that is only if I am not being frankly enough to
the arsenal supporters. But the truth is that they have not won any trophy for
seven years. If a big team like Arsenal is still paying the price for a failure
of a smooth transition, how would you expect Escom to be performing well?
So you have seen the results of man management failure what
can produce, this proves that for Escom’s scenario it’s the board which needs to
step down for its failure to make a good transition. If the club indeed wanted
to get lead of the dead wood in the Escom squad, I bet that was not the way to
do it.
Even the newly appointed technical staff comprising of
Chiukepo Msowoya (yes the same 23 year old former Orlando pirates striker)Jacob
Ngwira 27, Noel Mkandawire (the same player they forced him out on loan after
failing to sell him) and Kondwani Gawani. We will closely wait and see what the
inexperienced technical staff will do.
