Gaba completes
presidential cup mission
Big bullets prodigy Gabadinho Mhango’s 3rd minute
goal was enough to help, the Ndirande based outfit to end their cup drought,
and win their first silver ware in eight years.
The diminutive 17 year old attacker has been untouchable in
the cup games as he has singlehandedly guide bullets to glory. Gaba has scored
an impressive eight goals in the tournament including this game’s winning goal.
Bullets started on a brighter note and this was evidenced on
4th minute when Douglas Chirambo easily past Moyale barracks defenders’
on the left frank and whipped in a delightful cross which was met by Hesston
Munthali who teed up Gabadinho to fire the opener.1-0.
Just after the goal Moyale woke from their early slumber,
and started to dominate the game, as they started playing a fluent passing game,
but they failed to apply the finishing touches in the final third to put
matters on level terms.
Moyale nearly leveled just on the quarter hour mark, when Steven
Mkandawire burst forward on the right
flank and delivered a good ball in the box which was headed by victor Phiri,
but victor’s attempt went inches wide.
Moyale created a lot of goal scoring chances, but Big Bullets’s
goalie Owen Chaima was in top form. On 22nd minute Chaima produced a
stunning save when be smothered timothy Nyirenda’s goal bound shot.
Despite creating a lot of chances, Moyale could still not
get the breakthrough to level matters, and the first stanza ended 1-0.
In the second half, in an attempt to defend their lead,
bullets made an early substitution by bringing on Yamikani tambala for James Chilapondwa.
Bullets could nearly double their advantage on 48th minute when Diverson
Mlozi was allowed too much room in the right wing and he managed to square a
delightful cross to Douglas Chirambo whose shot went wide.
On 51st minute, Moyale introduced Sanders
Munthali for Steve Mkandawire. And just few minutes later the substitute Sanders,
tested Owen Chaima from long-range but the short was well claimed by Chaima.
Moyale tried hard in search for the leveler but bullets defended
their lead. After the game bullets coach Eddie Ngo’onamo was on cloud nine.
“I am very happy, more than happy for this victory that I am
the first coach to bring the trophy to bullets after eight years’, and this
marks the beginning of good things. We played very well today and we scored a good
goal.” he said
When asked to comment Gaba’s on performance in the
tournament, Ngo’onamo was out of words.
“He is a good player, very good player, he has done a great
job in this tournament and we are very happy with what he has done.” he said
Moyale barracks striker Victor Phiri, accepted his teams
defeat but said that his team will look forward to the other trophies.
“We have lost the game, this is how football is and you
accept it. We played very well but the only difference is that we did not score.
We will look forward to the other cups which are left so that we can give
something to our fans” he said.
